About The Winery

Country: Portugal
Region:
Douro Valley

This 20-Year-Old Tawny is a masterpiece of memory and blending. At Quinta da Côrte, this wine represents the "golden mean" of Port or the perfect equilibrium between the vibrancy of youth and the complexity of age. It is not a wine from a single year, but a blend of various vintages that average 20 years of age. While the estate’s schist terroir provides the initial structure, the true "terroir" of this wine is the cool, dark cellar. Here, the wine breathes through the wood, shedding its deep red pigment and aggressive tannins to become something ethereal, amber, and infinitely complex.

Terroir: The grapes come from the same Cima Corgo schist slopes as the Vintage ports, but the alchemy happens during aging.

Style: An Oxidative style of Port. Unlike the Ruby/LBV, this is aged in smaller vessels to encourage contact with oxygen, transforming fresh fruit into dried fruit and nuttiness.

Vinification: After traditional foot-treading in granite lagares and fermentation, the wine is transferred to 600-liter seasoned oak casks (pipes). Over two decades, evaporation concentrates the sugars and acidity, a process poeticized as the "Angel’s Share."

Tasting Notes

Appearance: A striking transformation from red to a translucent, brilliant amber-topaz color with a rim that fades to pale gold/green, a visual sign of its extended aging.

Nose: intensely aromatic and sophisticated. It moves away from black berries into a realm of dried luxuries: roasted almonds, walnuts, dried figs, and apricot jam, lifted by notes of orange peel, cinnamon, and blond tobacco.

Palate: Silky, seamless, and lighter on its feet than a Vintage Port. The texture is satin-smooth. The sweetness is perfectly offset by a razor-sharp acidity. Flavors of salted caramel, curry spice, and hazelnut linger on an endless, nutty finish.
