About The Winery
Country: Switzerland
Region: Valais
While Domaine de Beudon is famous for preserving ancient traditions, they also embrace successful Swiss innovation. Gamaret is a Swiss grape variety created in 1970 (a cross between Gamay and Reichensteiner) designed to bring color, structure, and rot resistance to the Alpine climate. In the hands of the Granges family, grown biodynamically on their isolated granite plateau, this variety transcends its scientific origins. It behaves somewhat like a "Swiss Syrah": dark, spicy, and brooding. This 2020 vintage captures the wild, untamed spirit of the estate, offering a red wine that is far more powerful and tannic than its cousin, the Gamay.
Terroir: The vines are rooted in the estate’s hard granite and gneiss cliffs in Fully. This poor, siliceous soil is crucial for Gamaret; it prevents the vine from being too productive and imparts a distinct graphite minerality that cuts through the grape's natural density.
Style: A structured and savory red wine. Unlike the light and fruity wines often associated with the region, this is dark, spicy, and built for aging. It retains the "natural" Beudon signature: unfiltered, low sulfur, and brimming with vital energy.
Vinification: 100% Biodynamic. Fermented with indigenous yeasts. The maceration is long to extract the deep pigments and tannins characteristic of the variety. It is aged in stainless steel or neutral vessels to preserve the spicy definition of the fruit without clouding it with oak aromas.
