About The Winery

Country: Spain
Region:
Rioja

"El Pacto" represents a deep commitment to preserving the ancestral viticulture of the region, focusing on old vines and organic practices. The "Tinto de la Sonsierra" is a profound expression of the rugged, historic landscape north of the Ebro River, capturing the pure, robust essence of the land through careful, low-intervention winemaking.

Terroir: The fruit is meticulously sourced from ancient, low-yielding vineyards spread across the Sonsierra zone. The vines are deeply rooted in calcareous clay soils, benefiting from the tempering influence of the Sierra de Cantabria mountains. This specific microclimate ensures optimal ripening while preserving the essential natural acidity and structural tension in the grapes.

Style: A 100% Tempranillo style, harvested from vines that are often over 70 years old.

Vinification: The winemaking is traditional and respectful. Following a manual harvest, the grapes undergo spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts to maintain the authentic character of the vineyard. The wine is then aged for approximately 14 months in oak barrels.

Tasting Notes

Appearance: A deep, intense cherry red with vibrant violet reflections at the rim.

Nose: Powerful, complex, and highly expressive. It opens with rich aromas of ripe dark forest fruits, blackberry, and plum. As it breathes, the oak aging reveals sophisticated, comforting layers of dark chocolate, sweet spices, black licorice, and a delicate touch of toasted cedar.

Palate: Full-bodied, structured, and elegant. The attack is voluminous, delivering a generous concentration of dark fruit. It is supported by a robust framework of ripe, polished tannins and a vibrant line of acidity that provides excellent freshness. The finish is remarkably long, savory, and perfectly integrated.
