About The Winery

Country: France
Region:
Rhône Valley

Domaine Duseigneur, a benchmark for biodynamics on the right bank of the Rhône, takes a poetic turn with this cuvée. "Sakura" is the Japanese word for "Cherry Blossom," a symbol of ephemeral beauty and renewal. Bernard Duseigneur crafted this wine to capture precisely that moment of springtime purity. It is a "natural wine" vinified without any added sulfites to preserve the absolute integrity of the fruit. Unlike the heavy, spicy reds traditional to the region, "Sakura" is an exercise in delicacy and transparency, offering a liquid translation of the cherry blossom after which it is named.

Terroir: The fruit comes from biodynamically farmed vineyards on sandy-clay soils, which are known to produce Grenache of superior finesse and aromatic lift rather than brute power.

Style: A delicate and ethereal red wine that balances the juicy, primary explosion of Grenache with a floral, silky texture achieved through zero-sulfite vinification.

Vinification: 100% destemmed grapes fermented with indigenous yeasts in concrete vats. The extraction is extremely gentle to avoid harsh tannins, and the wine is bottled without filtration or added sulfur.

Tasting Notes

Appearance: A vibrant, translucent ruby red with violet hints, often showing a slight natural haze due to the lack of filtration.

Nose: Pure and captivating. True to its name, it explodes with aromas of fresh griotte cherries and raspberry, interwoven with heady floral notes of rose petals and peony.

Palate: Silky and unadorned. The mouthfeel is soft and caressing, devoid of aggressive tannins. It feels like biting into a ripe grape, with flavors of crushed strawberries and a distinct "umami" savory quality often found in natural wines. The finish is fresh, clean, and incredibly digestible.
