About The Winery

Country: France
Region:
Burgundy

With the largest share of grand cru vineyards in Gevrey-Chambertin, Hubert Camus has earned a reputation as one of Burgundy’s true masters. The Camus family has been rooted in the village since 1832, crafting wines that reflect generations of expertise and an unwavering respect for tradition. Today, the domaine spans 18 hectares, two-thirds of which are classified as grand cru, an extraordinary proportion in Burgundy.

Often referred to as the “Grand Cru Master,” Hubert Camus is not only admired for his wines but also for his dedication to the region itself. Throughout his career, he has worked closely with the French government and winemaking institutions to protect and elevate the reputation of Burgundy wines. As a founding president and three-time leader of the BIVB (Bureau Interprofessionnel des Vins de Bourgogne), he played a central role in shaping the standards and policies that define the region today.

Born in 1937, Hubert joined the family domaine after his military service and took over in 1974. He has upheld the traditional methods passed down through generations: hand-harvesting, classic vinification, and an elevage of 14 to 18 months in oak barrels. The wines are bottled unfiltered, preserving their authenticity and ageing potential. Sediment in the bottle is a natural sign of their purity and artisanal character.

Domaine Camus continues to represent the soul of Gevrey-Chambertin: deep-rooted, uncompromising, and proudly Burgundian.
