About The Winery

Country: France
Region: Bordeaux

In Rieussec, after the terrible hailstorm, the summer conditions were saving. But September's miraculous conditions for the reds were followed by a handicap for the Botrytis, which waited, waited, and waited… and the harvest did not begin more easily until after October 20th. On these dates, we lacked a bit of heat and sunshine to reach the candied aromas of the greatest years, but our great terroirs were still able once again to bring great grapes, particularly Sauvignon. The blending work therefore leads us to make a very selected and very Sauvignonné Rieussec.

The second wine of Château Rieussec is selected from the same bases as the great wine. Its permanent characteristic is a beautiful aromatic amplitude with a dominant citrus palette.

The name Carmes de Rieussec refers to the monks of the Carmes de Langon, owners of the Rieussec estate in the 18th century.

Grape Variety: 94% Sémillon, 3% Sauvignon Blanc and 3% Muscadelle

Tasting Notes

Type: Sweet Wine
Grape Variety: Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Muscadelle

Intense nose with beautiful aromatic complexity. Mellow, slightly minty notes and a hint of dried apricots develop.
The palate is well balanced with the wine’s freshness underscored by a pleasant acidity. There are notes of
dried fig accompanied again by dried apricot. Subtly toasted oaky notes contribute to the wine’s roundness
and smoothness. A freshly-struck-match minerality accompanies the wine for its entire length.
