About The Winery
Country: Lebanon
Region: Bekaa Valley
Château Marsyas is a remarkable venture, founded in 2005 by the Saadé family in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley. Nestled at the foot of Mt Barouk, the estate spans 55 hectares of prime, high-altitude vineyard land in one of the world’s oldest winemaking regions. The family enlisted renowned Bordeaux wine consultant Stéphane Derenoncourt to guide the development of their project.
While not certified organic, the estate follows many organic practices, in particular, no use of pesticides or herbicides. Cereal crops are planted between the rows to enrich the soil with organic matter and improve aeration. By working with classic noble varieties and farming sustainably, the Saadé family strives to produce wines that truly reflect the exceptional terroir of Château Marsyas.
Climate: High altitude Mediterranean - wide temperature variations between day and night, favouring freshness and aromatic concentration.
Terroir: Clay-limestone soils at an altitude of 990 meters, offering minerality and natural tension.
Ageing: Fermentation and ageing in French oak barrels for 8 to 10 months, on fine lees, with regular stirring of the lees for greater roundness and complexity.
