About The Winery
Country: Switzerland
Region: Valais
This wine is a fascinating rehabilitation of a grape often misunderstood. In Switzerland, the variety Müller-Thurgau is traditionally known by its old name, Riesling x Sylvaner. While often associated with simple, high-yield bulk wines, Domaine de Beudon treats it with the reverence of a Grand Cru. Grown on the dizzying granite cliffs of Fully using biodynamic methods, these "Old Vines" produce a wine of startling complexity. The 2022 vintage pushed the aromatics to new heights, creating a wine that marries the exotic perfume of the grape with the severe mineral discipline of the mountain.
Terroir: The vines are rooted in the estate's signature granite and gneiss plateau, suspended above the Rhone valley. This rock acts as a heat trap, ensuring ripeness, while the high altitude preserves acidity.
Style: An aromatic and textural white wine. It balances the natural floral exuberance of the grape with the estate's signature "nervous" energy and slight carbonation (perlant) that keeps it vibrant.
Vinification: Biodynamic. Fermented on indigenous yeasts in stainless steel. Like the Fendant, it is bottled with residual CO2 to protect it, allowing for minimal sulfur use.
