About The Winery
Country: France
Region: Rhône Valley
Bernard Duseigneur is not just a winemaker; he is a fervent guardian of the soil. A pioneer of biodynamics in the Southern Rhône, he believes that the true taste of Châteauneuf-du-Pape comes from a living ecosystem. To refine this vision, he collaborates closely with Philippe Faure-Brac (Best Sommelier of the World, 1992). Together, they craft wines that defy the region's reputation for heaviness. Named "Matteo" in honor of the next generation, this flagship cuvée captures the quintessential soul of the appellation but filters it through Faure-Brac’s lens of gastronomic elegance. While the 2022 vintage was marked by intense heat, this partnership ensured a wine that remains powerful yet surprisingly fresh and lifted.
Terroir: A classic mosaic of Châteauneuf soils, primarily the famous galets roulés (large rolled stones) over red clay, which ensure deep ripening, and sandy plots that preserve aromatic finesse.
Style: A powerful yet sophisticated red wine that balances the solar generosity and lush fruit of Grenache with the structural depth and spicy complexity provided by Syrah.
Vinification: 100% biodynamic farming. Fermentation occurs with indigenous yeasts in concrete vats to maintain fruit purity. The wine is aged in a mix of concrete vats and demi-muids to polish the tannins without imparting heavy woody flavors.
