About The Winery

Country: France
Region:
Loire Valley

Domaine Chotard is a family affair deeply rooted in the hamlet of Reigny, just outside the village of Sancerre. For generations, the Chotard family (now led by Daniel and his son Simon) has cultivated vines on these steep, amphitheater-like slopes. The "Tradition" cuvée is the heartbeat of the estate, born from a geological duality: the sharp limestone Caillottes and the rich clay-limestone Terres Blanches. While the former provides the electric nerve typical of Sauvignon Blanc, the latter imparts a fleshy, generous texture that sets Chotard apart. It is a wine of balance, capturing the transition from the cool influence of the Loire river to the warmth of the sun-drenched hills.

Terroir: A blend of Caillottes for minerality and Terres Blanches (white clay) for body and structure.

Farming: Sustainable practices with a strong focus on biodiversity in the vineyards.

Vinification: Fermented in stainless steel at low temperatures and aged on fine lees to enhance the wine's natural creaminess without masking the fruit.

Tasting Notes

Appearance: Pale gold with crystalline clarity and youthful silver-green highlights.

Nose: Aromatic and expressive. It opens with zesty notes of grapefruit and lemon curd, quickly evolving into softer aromas of white pear, acacia flowers.

Palate: The attack is bright and invigorating, but the mid-palate reveals the estate's signature roundness. Flavors of citrus zest meld with ripe white peach, supported by a saline backbone. The finish is long, dry, leaving a lingering impression of chalky minerality.
