About The Winery

Country: France
Region: Bordeaux

Château Marjosse is the personal estate and "secret garden" of Pierre Lurton, a figure of Bordeaux who is also the Managing Director of the legendary Cheval Blanc and Château d'Yquem. Located in the Entre-Deux-Mers region, this estate punches far above its weight, offering the winemaking precision of a First Growth at an accessible price. Pierre Lurton has identified a unique vein of exceptional soil here, allowing him to craft a wine that rivals many classified growths. The 2018 vintage was warm and generous, resulting in a wine of great richness that still maintains the elegance favored by its owner.

Terroir: The vineyard sits on exceptional clay-limestone soils, similar to those found in Saint-Émilion. This geology is crucial: the clay holds water during the hot 2018 summer, and the limestone provides a fresh, mineral lift to the wine.

Style: A Merlot-dominant style, complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec. It is designed to be fleshy, charming, and drinkable relatively young, though the 2018 has the stuffing to age.

Vinification: The grapes are vinified plot-by-plot in cement tanks to preserve the purity of the fruit. Extraction is gentle to avoid harshness, and the wine is aged in French oak barrels to add subtle structure.

Tasting Notes

Appearance: A deep, concentrated garnet red with a bright ruby rim.

Nose: Charming and aromatic. It opens with a profusion of ripe red and black berries, layered with floral notes which are a signature of the estate. There are also hints of licorice and subtle toasted oak.

Palate: Fleshy and velvety. The attack is soft and round, led by the ripe Merlot. The mid-palate is generous, filled with juicy fruit flavors. The tannins are silky and well-integrated. The finish is fresh and savory, driven by the limestone terroir, leaving a pleasant saline impression.
