About The Winery
Country: France
Region: Loire Valley
Château Favray owes part of its distinction to the presence of Françoise de la Rivière, lady-in-waiting to Queen Margot, the wife of Henri IV. Upon her marriage to François de Reugny in 1602, she became Dame de Favray. Her tombstone and effigy are still preserved today in the chapel of a nearby village. It was likely during this period that the vineyard of Château Favray began to thrive. A magnificent 18th-century wine press still stands as a testament to the flourishing winemaking tradition carried on by many generations.
Unfortunately, the advent of phylloxera at the end of the 19th century dealt a devastating blow to the region’s vineyards.
In 1980, Quentin David made the decision to revive the estate’s winemaking vocation. He immediately undertook its transformation to accommodate vineyards. Today, 15 acres are in active production, with the potential to expand over an additional 50 acres in the coming years. His wines are now recognised as fine representatives of the Pouilly-Fumé appellation, as reflected by a long list of recent awards.
The estate is also certified by Terra Vitis, an environmental and CSR certification recognised by the French Ministry of Agriculture, underscoring a comprehensive, eco-conscious approach to viticulture.
