About The Winery
Country: France
Region: Rhone Valley
Located in the wild and sunny landscapes of the Ardèche, Château de la Selve was originally a stronghold on the frontier of the Empire and the Kingdom of France. Today, it is the playground of Benoit Chazallon, a winemaker who studied in Burgundy and brought that region's rigor to the south. Benoit converted the estate to biodynamics, convinced that the soil is the soul of the wine. "Petite Selve" is the estate's calling card for pure conviviality. It is the quintessential "bistro wine" or vin de soif, designed to be drunk effortlessly among friends. It captures the joy of the Ardèche sunshine without the heaviness.
Terroir: The vines grow on soils rich in playful clay and limestone, located on the banks of the Chassezac river, which tempers the heat and preserves the grapes' acidity.
Style: A vibrant red that foregrounds the crunchy, juicy fruit of Cinsault and Grenache, supported by a touch of Syrah, all vinified to maintain absolute freshness and drinkability.
Vinification: Minimal intervention is key. The grapes undergo a short maceration in concrete vats to extract fruit flavors rather than heavy tannins. It is aged exclusively in concrete to preserve the purity of the juice, with very low sulfur additions.
